Scrub Style: NurseMates Brand Shoutout

Hello All!

As a lot of nursing students know, scrubs can look extremely boxy and it can seem impossible to look good in them. I have personally been on the hunt to find cute, affordable, and practical scrub styles to share with you so when you walk onto that hospital unit as a RN you do so in comfortable style!

The first brand that I discovered and partnered with is NurseMates! This brand is centered around the nursing profession as they created all of their designs with the RN in mind. Standing for long hours while maneuvering and sweating in the same outfit for 12 hours are nursing challenges that Nurse Mates keeps in mind when designing breathable, flexible, and sturdy items that can be worn for years on end.

The Maci Top

The Maci scrub top has a traditional style that adds functionality with an extra set of front pockets. The top side pair are perfect for placing extra saline flushes or alcohol pads when you need to walk from the medication room to your patient's room and your hands are full. Having extra pockets is always a coveted quality to a scrub set and this specific top reveals added room through a sleek design

This top also comes in a variety of colors on the NurseMates website so nurses and CNA's will have no trouble finding the shade that aligns with their unit policy

I am wearing a size small in this top and certainly feel as though there is enough room to be able to bend, twist and reach without feeling constricted. It is important that scrub tops are not restrictive when worn because nursing can become very active when an emergency arises. Comfort and functionality are key when searching for the perfect scrub outfit.

The Brooke Pant

I learned how important a comfortable pair of scrub pants are my first semester of clinical. At the time my school still required us to wear extremely boxy white scrub tops with incredibly uncomfortable scrub bottoms. The non-drawstring elastic on my first pair of scrub pants would dig into my skin and make a 10 hour clinical day very uncomfortable. Thankfully you do not have to suffer as I did two years ago if you are wearing a pair of Nurse Mates scrub pants.

The Nurse Mates Brooke pant features an elastic drawstring waist that allows for relaxation and control. The worst thing that can happen while you are working is that your pants are barely staying on in front of your patient's family while you are bending over checking their I&O's in their hanging Foley bag. With the Brooke pant you do not have to worry about this healthcare faux pas. Not only does this pant feature a reliable drawstring elastic, it also has a stylish high waist. The up and coming trend in scrub wear is tucking your shirt into your pants in order to create more of a tapered waist appearance. This style is certainly possible to complete with this pant.

Another unique and adorable feature of this pant is the zippered side pocket. On the right side of the pant there is a very large cargo-style pocket with an additional zippered compartment on the surface. The compartment is deep enough to hold an iPhone 6S and zip close for safety. The Nurse Mates signature heart design acts as the finishing touch for the toggle.

Compression Socks

Compression socks are a nursing outfit item that I am learning is absolutely essential. Standing for a 12 hour shift will certainly leave your feet tired and legs aching when you are finally finished, so finding any relief is imperative.

Compression socks allow an increase in venous return, which decreases the likelihood of developing edema, varicose veins, and thrombosis. We have all learned about and seen those health issues throughout our time in nursing school so it is important to be proactive and limit your likelihood of developing those conditions early on in your career.

Nurse Mates carries a wide variety of compression socks that vary in price but do not waver in effectiveness. Solid color, pattern, and seasonal design options are all available on their website, which allows you to coordinate your socks to your shoes or scrubs on a shift-by-shift basis.

Nurse Mates also carries a line of ankle socks if you are not interested in compression socks.

The Ultimate Nurse Bag

Finding the perfect nursing bag to fit your needs can prove very difficult, especially considering the amount of pens, paper, surgical tape, accessories, and tools nurses and nursing students need to carry with them on each shift.

Oh, and don't forget about all of the snacks you need to bring to the nurse lounge in order to sustain you during your long shift!

The Nurse Mates Ultimate Nurse Bag is one of the largest and functional nursing bags that I have seen. This bag features a very large main compartment that is able to hold multiple folders, papers, and nursing supplies with plenty of room to spare so nothing gets damaged.

There are also several miniature compartments throughout the front and sides of the bag that are perfect to hold stray pens, miscellaneous hair ties, your phone and car keys.

Each center compartment features sturdy zippers so you are ensured that none of your materials will fall out while you are walking to the nurses lounge at the start of your shift. The two side compartments have flaps that secure with Velcro so you can easily reach into them and grab your keys while you are on your way off the unit.

A top handle and an adjustable padded strap allow you to choose how you want to carry your bag.

 The Lacey Tie-Up Shoe

One popular line of shoe that Nurse Mates carries is their Lacey style.

This shoe is stylish and supportive while remaining true to size. I ordered my traditional shoe size in this shoe and can say with confidence that my feet fit perfectly inside. The Nurse Mate's signature design detail of a heart is featured on the side, allowing it to complete any look Nurse Mates look.

This shoe features a very thick soul in order to offer a lot of support. Support is so important for a nurse or nursing student that has to be on their feet for 12+ hours during their shifts. As many know, sometimes the most supportive shoes are not the cutest, however, this is not an issue with the Lacey style because the knit design and gym-shoe appearance is cute enough to make any nurse envious (especially when they see you are no longer complaining about your aching feet halfway through your shift!).

These shoes are labeled as being slip resistant, which is a coveted quality among health care provider shoes. The body of the shoe is also very thick to serve as protection against dropped items or spilled fluids. Safety is always a priority in the nursing world.

Thank you so much for reading! I loved being able to review a whole brand of nursing-wear and would love to be able to continue this series about stylish scrub options! I hope to bring a lot of different brands to my blog in order to inform everyone of the different scrubs that are available to healthcare professionals!

I would also like to sincerely thank Nurse Mates for their generosity in sending me these items, and their willingness to partner with me as a brand representative. Keep an eye out on my Instagram for more photos of the Nurse Mates scrubs in action!
