The Perfect Nursing Student Gift List

Hello!

August is literally days away, which means that the first day of school is fast approaching. The first day of nursing school can be incredibly frightening and exciting, no matter what semester you are heading into. Whether you are a nursing student already, someone who is going to be beginning nursing school, or an individual that knows a nursing student personally, the feelings of nervousness and enthusiasm are all the same. I personally have always regarded the first day of school as somewhat of a holiday.

That being said, I am also the type of person who loves giving gifts. Whether to others or to myself, I think that giving random small gifts can brighten someone's day, and if it is something that has to do with a portion of their life that they are incredibly passionate about, that is even better.

Fun fact: I am an extremely thoughtful gift giver. When I was a freshman in college I dated a volunteer firefighter, and for Christmas I ordered him a custom Firefighter blanket embroidered with his last name and station name.

Now, if you are looking for something to celebrate your first day of the semester in nursing school, or looking for something to get your friends for their nursing school journey: you have come to the right place. Not only am I great at finding sentimental gifts for people that I love, I am also great at finding great deals and great places to find those key items.

As mentioned in a very early blog post, I have a running "wish list" on Amazon of things that I want to get myself that revolve all around nursing. (I'm a dork, I know). I figured that with this possible gift giving season upon us, there's no better time to share my wonderful finds.

Tip: You can also buy something for a faculty member that you are close with. For example, the Student Nurses Association at my school always buys a beginning and end of the semester gift for our nursing college secretary because she does so much for all of us whiny nursing students.

So, without further adieu, here are the cute nursing related items I found on Amazon that I think would be great gifts. Click on each title link to be brought to the correct page for that item!

A planner - because it's nursing school

I think that it's pretty safe to say that a lot of girls are in love with using planners - and in nursing school, they're a necessity. So, why not treat your favorite nursing student to an adorable planner that they can fill up with exam dates, homework assignments, and clinical hours! [They'll be genuinely grateful, I promise]

Something special for the one who journals

I think that journaling is so important in nursing school. Nursing school is two years of so much information, experience, and memories crammed together, and years down the line it would be nice to relive specific moments. Perhaps you won't read it until 10 years after you land your first nursing job, or maybe you'll look at it every day before you start your shift. Re-reading old clinical stories can help transport you back to a time when you were completely motivated to take on the world in your scrubs. Keeping all of those memories in a nursing-specific journal is the perfect way to preserve that time in your life. I genuinely wish I would have journaled some portions of my nursing school journey.

I actually have this exact journal from Amazon!

If you are looking for more of a general, motivational cover I would recommend browsing Marshall's or TJ Maxx. I know I love a good deal, and sometimes those stores have the most adorable stationery items.

A gift for the nursing student that wants to "brighten up" her scrubs

I personally believe that you can never go wrong with an adorable badge reel - and with Amazon, Ebay and Etsy selling home-made, personalized ones left and right, you can't go wrong. I have gotten so many compliments on my Hello Kitty Nurse badge reel over the semesters that I know that this small ID tag can brighten even the boxiest of scrub tops [Throw back to before my school got new uniforms for clinical].

The large amount of choices available in badge reel designs allow you to find the perfect one!

Here is a link to an adorable badge reel shop on Amazon - "The Badge Shack". All of the badge reel designs and characters are made of felt.

The perfect gift for when bling is needed and she can't wear jewelry on the unit

Who doesn't like a little bling? When rings, bracelets or necklaces aren't necessarily allowed on the hospital floor due to safety and sanitary reasons - a little stethoscope charm does the trick. These stethoscope charms are relatively inexpensive but make a big punch for the nursing student who loves to sparkle and shine when performing all of her important nursing skills!

Something to ease the pain any time of day

Whether it be a cup of coffee at 7am or a glass of wine at 7 pm [when of age, of course] - every nursing student has their drink of choice to make the nursing school process a little easier. A coffee travel tumbler or a nurse themed wine glass is the perfect small gift to give to that special person. As someone who is as equally obsessed with their mugs as they are with just about everything else, you can never go wrong with gifting drinkware that reminds them of their passion.

There are also so many Etsy stores that sell individual nurse themed decals that can be purchased for a few dollars and stick on a coffee tumbler that is already owned!

For the nursing student or nurse obsessed with coffee

Of course there is that running meme for nursing students that talks about putting an IV of coffee inside of your vein the night before an exam. This would be perfect for mostly every nursing student. I'm not much of a coffee drinker myself, but I would certainly wear this shirt.

For the nursing student that loves to read, or loves encouraging words and motivation

I have not personally read this Chicken Soup for the Soul book, but
I have read other series from this line. One of my favorite times in eighth grade was when my teacher would start the day off with a short story from one of her Chicken Soup for the Soul Books. I also think that everyone needs to hear words of encouragement, wisdom and stories to let them know that they are not alone in a very difficult profession.

Something for the aspiring pediatric nurse  to show off her passion

As mentioned in my "What I Learned in Nursing School Is.....My Third Semester" blog post, I realized that I am absolutely in love with the pediatric specialty of nursing. Also, I am a complete self-proclaimed dork and would totally love to receive this shirt. I think that it would be perfect for either the aspiring or seasoned pediatric nurse. I mean, who doesn't love cute cartoon Koala's?

The friend who puts the pedal to the metal

I am certainly that girl who needs a new car straight out of nursing school, so you best believe I have been looking for cute things to go with said "currently imaginary but much needed" new vehicle......

But back to the point.....I think that this car decal would be such a cute gift for anyone who is in the medical profession. Whether it is a CNA, a nurse, a nursing student, or nursing school faculty: I'm sure all of the females of the group feel this way. Plus, it's cheaper than getting a license plate with "RN" at the end of it. Also, depending on the size, I would so stick this on my work binder or somewhere else. I have also found different sentiments when I searched for similar items, but this one spoke to me most!

For the nursing student who just wants to binge watch TV after a morning exam

You've worked your butt off to pass your latest exam, and a rest is well deserved. Maybe you don't want to watch anything medical related when you begin your well deserved "school work rest day", but just in case your still in love I would suggest binge watching Greys Anatomy. I was sort of really disappointed when I started nursing school with the overall lack of interesting (non-day time soap opera drama) health care shows that were on TV. However, with some patient waiting and digging to scratch my medical show itch, I thankfully began watching Greys Anatomy and the show Code Black

Code Black has had two seasons already on CBS, but I'm really unsure if they will be renewed for another season for the fall. At any rate, I think that their two seasons are really good and I have actually watched episodes where they talk about a lot of things I learned in nursing school!

I hope that this post has given some helpful ideas if you are looking for something to give a loved one for their nursing school journey. All of these items are those that I have found on my online shopping browses and have been sitting in my wish lists for at least six months. (Sometimes it's hard to part with my money hahaha). I think that any one of these gifts would put a smile on your face if you are treatin' yourself, or the face of your friend.

Thank you so much for reading, it is so appreciated!
