Hello All!
I wanted to post another installment of my Scrub Style series by reviewing different styles and brands of nursing shoes. Personally, I am a girl that is obsessed with shoes, and have been interested in finding a pair (or several) to wear to work as a nurse that are both stylish and comfortable.
As posted in a previous "Getting Ahead: Extra Nursing Gear" post, I bought a pair of Champion knit gym shoes on extreme sale at Target for $11.
I love this shoe for it's comfort and style. This shoe has a memory foam insole which makes it extremely comfortable to wear. I currently wear a pair of normal black Champion gym shoes that have a memory sole and I wouldn't trade that characteristic in for the world. The body of the shoe is not as thick as the Nurse Mates Lacey Shoe that I reviewed previously, which might lead to a safety concern in emergency or chaotic situations. However, for the price that I bought this shoe, I am very pleased with my purchase.
In my first Scrub Style post I shared that I had partnered with Nurse Mates to review a set of their items. As part of their set I was gifted a pair of Nurse Mates Knit Gym shoes in the Lacey Style.
As posted in my initial review, this shoe is a very comfortable shoe that offers good support. The body of the shoe is very sturdy and protective, so nurses and nursing students do not have to worry if an accidental spill of liquid or if an uncapped needle falls. The shoe is true to size so anyone ordering the shoe does not have to worry if it will fit them properly or not.
Overall, I am a huge fan of this shoe and would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a quality nursing shoe to wear while working in the hospital.
Over the last few months I have genuinely been obsessed with nursing clogs. At the very beginning of my student nurse journey I thought that they were the ugliest shoes on the planet - but my opinions have since changed. Now, as a girl on a tight budget I have genuinely searched high and low for a pair of nursing clogs that were less than the standard $100.
My initial clog search began with your usual shoe stores for "non-slip clogs". I searched online with Payless, Shoe Carnival, and Famous Footwear. However, either the shoes were not what I was looking for or I didn't want to pay that much money for them. I began kicking myself that I didn't capitalize on the insane sale Payless had months back on their "non-slip clogs", which had them marked down to only $10.
I began searching online at Dansko's, hoping I could find a pair on extreme clearance to order and try out. I was out of luck on that search, so I decided to drive over to a store that actually sells them in order to try them.
Now, Dansko's are originally sized with a UK chart and converted to US sizes, so you have to search to find your perfect pair. I tried the equivalent to my usual US size 7 but I had no luck. The size equivalent to a US size 7 was so large on my feet I could not walk without slipping out of them. In an attempt to find a pair that fit I tried every single size until I reached the smallest available - an equivalent to a US size 5. The 5's were the only pair that I felt would not totally slip off my feet when walking, which left me genuinely surprised at the odd size difference.
I honestly do not know if this is a normal thing to happen with a clog shoe - but it was enough to make me keep the $100 I shouldn't be spending in the first place.
After working with Nurse Mates I browsed their website for fun. I decided to search their shoe selection just to indulge my continued clog curiosity and found that there were a lot of clog styles had a discounted price. During my final search I came across a discounted clog style, the Chelsea, that was more than half off the original price.
Being a discounted shoe there were only two sizes listed: a 6M and an 11M. I decided that I wasn't going to let myself walk away from another discounted price opportunity like I did at Payless, so I ordered the shoes.
They came in the mail a few days ago and I immediately tried them on. Because they are a new shoe and have a naturally stiff exterior they were a little difficult to slide into, but I was content with the level of security my feet felt while walking inside of them. They were certainly a more snug fit than the Dansko's shoes that I tried on, and at the price I bought them at, they couldn't be beat.
The Chelsea also has a two inch height to them, which is exciting to me because I'm short and any height I can get makes me a happy camper.
I would love to be able to try out an Alegria nurse shoe. One of my clinical instructors wears Alegria, which is how I originally was introduced to the brand! Their shoes look extremely comfortable and I feel as though their company gears specific items with the healthcare professional in mind. If I ever get the opportunity to try a pair of Alegria shoes I will be sure to update my Scrub Style: Shoe Showdown list with a full post about that specific brand. I think that having a vast array of options for footwear in nursing is never a bad thing!
After browsing their website I think that the Keli Ric Rack Professional Shoe is so adorable and it looks really comfortable. As a girl who always has the back of their feet ripped up from shoes, I appreciate the seemingly soft backing on this slip on shoe!
Thank you so much for reading this post, I hope that you found some useful information and resources! I am very much a fan of the nurse clog style of shoe and would love to be able to get my feet into other styles to try out. Nursing shoes are such an important part to having a comfortable shift because walking and standing in uncomfortable shoes for 12 hours is never fun. Styles of shoes are so individualized and not everything works for everyone - I hope that I was able to bring a variety of brands, styles and price ranges to your attention so you can find the best shoe that fits your Scrub Style!
